MMS check-in Checking in with your mobile phone
Air France KLM has been trialling electronic boarding passes on Amsterdam-Paris routes for the last six months. Passengers receive a 2D barcode on their mobile phone or PDA via email or SMS. The barcode is read by cabin crew and security staf via handheld scanner. The system has proved popular and reliable so from today it will be optional on KLM and Air France fights from Paris and Amsterdam to most major European cities."It is our aim to offer as many passengers as possible a comfortable and hassle free travel experience without any unnecessary paperwork, said Martijn van der Zee, Air France KLM's e-commerce veep.
An electronic boarding pass is a boarding pass you receive on your mobile telephone, Smartphone, BlackBerry or PDA. This boarding pass contains the same data as a paper boarding pass, plus a barcode that is scanned at the gate. Therefore you do not have to print this boarding pass. In combination with your passport or identification card you can clear all the checkpoints at the airport. With the electronic boarding pass you may still use all the airport facilities. If, for any reason, you are unable to have your barcode scanned at the airport, you may always use the self-service check-in counters or service desk at the airport to print a boarding pass.
